The crafting and assemblage of Howard Park Sauvignon Blanc focuses on the regional eloquence of fruit, to build layers of flavour, structure and texture, while permitting the influence of terroir and clime to speak. Crafted from a selection of superior parcels Gin Gin and Mendoza clones, picked off the best rows Chardonnay, grown to the south facing slopes of Block 5 Allingham vineyard in the Karridale sub region of Margaret River. Whole bunches of grape are gently pressed to reserve the purest free run juices, vinified to the action of wild indigenous yeasts in a high proportion of new French oak barriques, hogsheads and puncheons. Stone fruits and honeysuckle are deftly integrated with nutmeal, lemon curd, fondant oak, fine mineral texture and extraordinary palate length.

Since inaugural release, Howard Park Chardonnay has wowed wine judges and reviewers internationally. It was awarded Best White Trophy at the Tri-National Wine Challenge, Gold Medal at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles and Blue Gold at the Sydney International, two years in a row. Wisdom is just such a wine, fashioned exclusively from the finest parcels of Pemberton Chardonnay, hand picked from a single site, the very best of Houghton vineyards. A flagship wine of immense stature to accompany the perfect cheese souffle or freshly cooked crayfish, caressed by newburg and amontillado sauce.

The commitment to excellence from vineyard to bottling has positioned Houghton as Western Australia's most awarded winemaker. White Burgundy Classic is steeped in a history dating back to the 1830s, originally made by the founder of the brand, late great Jack Mann. Houghton operate many of Western Australia's most bountiful vineyards. Modern wines from old vines. Hay Shed Hill Vineyard was planted to vine in 1973, right at the heart of the acclaimed Willyabrup triangle at Margaret River, during the early pioneer days of local viticulture. Hay Shed Hill can now boast of fully mature vines, yielding small amounts of noble varietal grapes which have established the reputation of Margaret River as a world class winegrowing region. Vinified to world's best practice, the Chardonnay of Hay Shed is characterful and charming, resonating with the essence of a truly wonderful site.

Established 1975 to Gin Gin Mendoza clone Chardonnay, Block 6 is a steep south facing slope of reduced sunlight in the heart of Wilyabrup Valley. The precious dry grown vines yield a meagre harvest of distinctive, refined minerality. The purest free run juices are treated to vinification in a high proportion of French oak barriques and ten months maturation. Pears and apple dominate, suppleness of struck match, the savouryness of flint, the intense palate depth of old vines fruit contributes penetrating, mouth filling flavours and texturally refined, satin richness.

Block 1 is a steep gravelly slope of old, dry grown Semillon Sauvignon vines, amongst the first ever planted in Margaret River, yielding a very small crop of the most articulate Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc with a depth of flavour and intensity rarely seen. Only the purest free run juice are treated to a rich course of barrel ferments in seasoned French oak, followed by a term of eight months maturation. Lemony mineral, mesmerizingly complex with underlying toastyness, an amazing palate extension of gooseberries and lychee lingering to a clean ultra dry finish.

A prolific winner on the national wine show circuit, in classically dry Margaret River styling. Sourced exclusively from the estate's Five Ashes Vineyard, most notable are it's juiciness, freshness and restraint, affording excellent mid palate depth. Mealy hints and excellent texture are bound tightly by a tantalising natural acid zing and minerality, finishing long and flavoursome.

The infectious enthusiasm of the late great Jack Mann, encouraged a small number of farmers in the Great Southern to try their hand at viticulture. The three Goundrey vineyards were amongst the first to be planted at Mount Barker, they remain meticulously managed and cared for by a dedicated team who work closely to ensure vintages of the finest fruit. The conspicuous freshness of Homestead Chardonnay is defined as much by the quality of harvest, as it is by a natural, minimalist winemaking approach, completely unwooded and unoaked.

Goundrey are based at Mount Barker, where the fortuitious microclimes deliver vintages of the most deeply flavoursome wines, which paradoxically seem more European than Aussie in style. The magnificent Langton estate property is home to Goundrey, recognized throughout the region as one of the most distinguished vineyards in all Great Southern. Essential to the superlative quality of their Sauvignon Blanc is the excellence of Mount Barker terroir, where the vines are stimulated to yield grapes of clean fresh flavours and intense, evocative aromaticness.

Gnangara, pronounced nan-gara, is a reference to the underground spring which nourishes much of the fertile region surrounding the original Evans & Tate wineworks. The perpetually replenished vines yield grapes with great flavour intensity and natural acidity, particularly from sites around Manjimup and Pemberton. The freshness of lime zest comes from Manjimup, Pemberton contributes vital slatey and grassy characters.

Fraser Gallop aim to create a wine which has true elegance, fine texture and ample complexity as well as lively, fresh fruit character. Semillon is sourced from Wilyabrup where it can mature past the green, herbal notes to the riper spectrum of flavours such as lemongrass and quince. Sauvignon Blanc comes from the cooler sub region of Karridale, an area which produces finer, more elegant berries with fresher flavours. The classic Margaret River white style, eminently drinkable upon release, a wine which is more than just simple fruit flavours.

A profound construct of West Australian Riesling, from fruit grown to a fastidiously managed site at Frankland River, one of the most isolated vineyards in the world, the product of uncompromising standards in viticulture. The vineyard is planted to Geisenheim and Rhine Riesling clones, into ironstone gravel over loam and clay subsoils, on an undulating northeast facing slope. Isolation Ridge slowly opens up in the glass, exhibiting purity of flavour, exceptional balance and a refined natural acidity, which carries the wine today and well into the future.

The classically dry Margaret River style, though pleasingly not completely dry, Forester Estate is saturated with fully ripe, rich fruit, unfettered by any oak. Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc is sourced from neighbouring properties in the northern Yallingup sub region of Margaret River. Direct input from Forester's viticulturist ensures well balanced canopies and crops are grown for this ripe and judiciously unwooded white. A highly regional, vital white wine that goes down easy with seafood, approachable and satisfying, innately suited to good Al fresco cuisine.

Margaret River does the Sauvignon Blanc so very well, some of the smaller boutique winemakers dotting the coast seem to have the magic touch with this rich and aromatic style of wine. Forester Estate focus more specifically on unique vineyard sites with exceptional terroir to construct the essential Margaret River Sauvignon Blanc. They have increased palate structure and complexity through partial barrel fermentation and storage on lees. A vigorously fruit driven wine, subtley oaked, eminently suited to creamy pastas and the freshest seafood.

Forest Hill's experience with Riesling dates back forty years to when the first two acres of vine anywhere within the Great Southern region were established. One of the most precious sites planted to the superior terrains around Denmark, it was selected by Dr John Gladstone, one of the pioneers of West Australian viticulture, later acquired by Robert Holmes à Court. Nothing short of exquisite, a fine acid structure will see it evolve beautifully, clean varietal fruit and softness make it a perfect match today alongside Thai prawns in ginger, chilli and lime.

Forest Hill is a Great Southern of class and distinction, a Chardonnay of elegance and controlled intensity. Aromas of ripe peach and apricot are complemented by light citrus, hints of vanilla, dry fig and perfumed lifted Burgundian oak introduce a style with rich intense full palate backed by pleasant hints of roasted almonds and butterscotch. The product of choice fruit from a great vineyard, the recommended match to salt & pepper squid, a combination that will amalgamate its savoury notes with the fine acid structure and complexity of such a vibrant wine.

At the core of Forest Hill's elite range of single block editions, are the original estate plantings of the 1960s and 1970s. These gnarly old vines are deep rooted and dry grown, defined by their low vigor and scant harvest of tiny berries, conspicuous for an intenity of flavour and wonderful crystalline textures. These are the earliest and most precious parcels of Chardonnay in all Great Southern, yielding a graceful yellow wine, brimming with golden peach and grapefruit characters, florals, almonds and flint, its powerful mineral finish driven by juicy, ripe stonefruit acidity.

Forest Hill Vineyard is planted very close to Mt Barker, its unique topography, deep gravel soils and proximity to the Southern Ocean assures mild summers with cooling southerly breezes. Identified in the 1970s by gentleman James Halliday as the most outstanding Riesling of the Australian west, Block 1 is a sacred old parcel, one of the first ever planted in Great Southern. Wild yeast fermented for richness and complexity, vibrant and crisp with juicy natural acidity, Block 1 sings of its Mount Barker provenance, a long, lingering, flinty finish in a graceful, old vines, Riesling way.

With an abundance of clean water and healthy vines set against a backdrop of karri and jarrah forests, the picturesque Fonty's Pool vineyards are named after a huge dam built in the 1920s. Originally a vegetable farm which operated for over a century, the property was identified by the Cape Mentelle winemaking team as an outstanding site for growing wine grapes. A lively fruit driven style was achieved by handling the fruit with care and respect. Partial barrel fermentations and wild yeasts have enhanced the wine with texture and complexity.

Two thirds Sauvignon Blanc, the balance of Semillon, are sourced from good vineyards in the Wilyabrup and Karridale subregions of Margaret River. Parcels are selected on the basis of the desirable characteristics that they can bring to the final wine. Wilyabrup contibutes lovely lifted tropical aromatics whilst Karridale makes for a fine and elegant palate structure. An invigorating, light style of white that's refreshingly unwooded and unoaked, with a touch of sweetness to achieve a lovely gentle finish, food friendly and ideal for all occasions.
